We drove east on Highway 14 just outside of Cody, Wyoming and found a dirt road leading off to the left that wound down to the Shoshone River.
We were pretty excited to do a little Shoshone River fishing to cast our lines in the water for the first time on the river this day, because the day before we had driven into Cody from the Yellowstone area of Wyoming and we wanted to stop and fish the entire way as we skirted the inviting river, but I needed to get our trailer to it's destination at the Ponderosa Campground.
We had been on the road on a fishing in every state trip. Along the way I had impressed on to Molly that it is a very bad habit to run up to a quite river, a small stream and almost any body of water we would come to.
So Molly waited patiently as I set her pole up with her infamous lucky lure, and I very excitedly put on my new beautiful streamer with an 18" leader and a slinky weight that was enough to keep with the natural flow of the river.
If you look at the photo you will see that the river is pretty wide here and maybe eighteen inches deep, I was not sure I would have any luck.
On the way here we stopped at North Fork Anglers and I got a little advice out of the guy behind the counter. He wasn't keen on giving much of his local knowledge, but what he gave was some very good info. Grab a few Streamers is all he said. I grabbed two of everything and took it to the counter for check out.
I believe that it is good to try all you have with maybe two or three cast until you find out what works best then go from there. I think I had made about twenty or so cast and nothing. I looked down the river towards were Molly had been casting and I could see a little bump on the top as it flowed over a rock.
I had walked down the river just past the bump and cast upriver and I put the streamer to the outside of the rock and the next thing you know it was Fish on with Shon time! I was so stoked to get the fish landed. Molly as always took the photo.

I have to say the fish was returned to the river and I figured it was beer thirty so, we went back to our trailer we call, "The Nug"
The end.
